12 WEEK WELLBEING CHALLENGE

Do you want to feel stronger, healthier, and more flexible – both inside and out? This program is about making changes that are more than skin-deep, and celebrating you as a whole person (not just a body or another number). Terrified of before-and-after photos? Don’t worry, there won’t be any of those here!

The 12 Week Wellbeing Challenge is about shifting from the inside out. It is based on scientific evidence about how we can be our best selves, both at the gym and beyond. Over 12 sessions, we will discover what neuroscience can tell us about our mind-body connections, learn practical “brain hacks” for working smarter (not harder) at the gym, create a plan for applying our new strategies, and do it all with a group of like-minded people for support and accountability!

HERE’S WHAT WE WILL COVER

Week 1: Introduction and overview of the program

Learn about the negativity bias of the human brain, how it holds us back from achieving what we want, and how we can overcome it. This first session is free and open to anybody who is curious about enrolling in the 12 Week Wellbeing Challenge.

Week 2: Adrenaline: friend or foe?

Learn about adrenal fatigue, the role of the fight-or-flight system, and how to exercise in a way that nourishes your system and doesn’t burn you out.

Week 3: Moving towards instead of away

We often focus on what we don’t want instead of what we do want. Learn about the reticular activating system in our brain and how to activate it for better results (at the gym and beyond!).

Week 4: Cultivating resilience

Learn how to rebound from setbacks and avoid bad habits by bringing your subconscious values to the surface.

Week 5: Comparison vs creativity

In this session you will hear a case study on a country with the world’s lowest rate of eating disorders, what they are doing differently to stay healthy, and the detox you can take to increase your happiness.

Week 6: Fitting in vs belonging

Why people-pleasing puts a strain on our relationship with ourselves as well as others, and what your heart rate has got to do with it.

Week 7: Being uncool

Is your ideal to be “as cool as a cucumber?” What about “cool, calm and collected?” This session uncovers the reasons why “cool” is overrated, what it is doing to your health, and how to warm up to embrace your inner un-cool-ness.

Week 8: Your multiple brains

Did you know that besides the brain in your head, you also have a sophisticated network of neurons in your heart and in your gastro-intestinal tract, known as the heart-brain and the gut-brain? Learn how to use them at the gym, at work and at home, and expand your idea of what “intelligence” is.

Week 9: Making meaning

Discover ways you can find – and create – a deeper sense of purpose in your exercise routine, your work and your life. Learn how this will help shift you from motivation to inspiration (and why it’s important to understand the difference!)

Week 10: The recovering perfectionist

How perfectionism is a cognitive trap that limits our perspective, reduces our self-esteem and inhibits our ability to perform. Learn three evidence-based strategies that will re-wire your system to help you achieve more.

Week 11: The business of busy-ness

The world around us seems to be getting more frantic, and we can’t always stop in the middle of everything. So how do we look after our wellbeing when we are busy? Learn and practice ways to re-charge even when you’re on the go.

Week 12: Wrap up

Our final session will summarise what we have covered together, and is also an opportunity for participants to share where they have been in their 12-week journey, and what their next steps will be after the program.

If you’re interested in becoming a better version of yourself – inside AND out – the 12 Week Wellbeing Challenge starts on May 19th, and runs every Sunday afternoon from 4:00 – 5:15pm until August 4th. This program is open to the public as well as members of Enjoy Fitness, so feel free to invite others! Sharing the experience with friends and family is great for your social connections and will make you more likely to succeed in any positive change you’d like to make.

About Your Facilitators

Bek Smith is a public speaker in wellbeing, a former physiotherapist, and has been an instructor for Enjoy Fitness since 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours (majoring in physiology and psychology), a Master of Physiotherapy, and a Diploma in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing. Bek founded Smith and Wellness with a vision to introduce psychological wellbeing principles into the fitness industry, combining her passions for mind and body health.

Lou Pyman is an educator, trainer and facilitator who works with young people and adults on personal leadership, wellbeing and resilience, and how to embrace failure. She is currently a Tutor and Topic Coordinator in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at Flinders University, and a trainer for the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre at SAHMRI. Lou loves working with people in groups because of the dynamic community that is created when people come together.
